Program Note
After making an impressive debut with <Jacky> by winning Prix Un Certain Regard at Cannes Films Festival, Fow Pyng Hu came back with <Paradise Girls> four years later, and finally, with his third movie,<Nick>, another four years later. Named after the main character of the movie, Nick is full of himself and finds himself not being able to blend with others. He is working as a sous-chef for a restaurant. He is talented and knows it all too well that he thinks that all others are talentless and looks down even on the master chef Vim. Nick gets into an argument with his colleagues one day and finds everyone distancing from him. He and a Croatian- born waitress, Christina heads for Croatia to find truffles and himself. <Nick> is an interesting cross-over of delving into movie characters and a road movie. Fow Pyng Hu has long been Benito Stranzzio, and his camera works adds uniqueness to the movie along with sound and music.
