France under Nazi influence in October 1941. As the young, communist members of French Resistance assassinated one of the German army officers, Hitler, as part of retaliation, orders to kill one hundred fifty French people. The target consists mainly of young French men who share the same philosophy with the assassins, especially those who are against Nazi dominance and thus detained in concentration camps for political reasons. The director of the film, Schulendorf reconstructed a true story based on classified documents made by the poet Ernst Junger who was serving the German Army as an officer back then, and letters of farewell written by one hundred fifteen victims. The narrative is taken in the eyes of then seventeen year old Guy Moquet, one of the victims, who posthumously made his name and a German soldier of the same age who was ordered to shoot the victims.
