Ernetso, an Uruguayan retiree living alone in Brazil, is slowly losing his sight. His shelves are filled with books that he cannot read anymore, his son frets about his health and urges him to move in with him, his neighbors are friendly but not in a much better condition. One day, a young girl Bia storms into Ernesto’s apartment and despite suspicious concerns, they form a unique camaraderie that changes both of their lives. While this is no fairy tale, lonely people finding each other to eventually save themselves is a little short of a miracle. Through Ernesto’s Eyes achieves a rare feat of being humorous, poetic, serious, and touching all at once. Ana Luiza AZEVEDO is a great storyteller, and like Ernesto and Bia overcome their generation and gender difference, this is a film that will easily transcend language or cultural difference.
