Program Note
Luisa’s marriage is barely skimming the surface as she reluctantly joins another vacation with her husband’s family. She is worried about their teenage daughter Ana, who has been discovered sleepwalking naked and bleeding in their house. A cozy family lunch turns into a silent and tense battle as an agitated Luisa suppresses her exasperation, a scene that is likely to be universally familiar among women. Due to the shaky marriage, Luisa is obsessed and over-protective of Ana, believing that her daughter is the only meaningful thing in her life. In this suffocating psychodrama, female director Paula HERNÁNDEZ describes with preciseness and delicacy, the difficulties mother and daughter face as they oscillate between the status quo and frustrated desires. Eventually, both women are pushed too far, and the seemingly peaceful country house turns upside down and their lives are changed forever. (Karen Park)
