The Son is a movie that tries not to blame anyone easily. The son’s parents worry if their son will be perverse and they sometimes get angry, but they don′t just give up on him. The son fights and gets into trouble at school, but when we see the way he treats his girlfriend or brother, we can notice his good inner self. Each tries their best in his or her seat, but their happiness often breaks and disappears. The story of a Bosnian family, which seems to be ordinary, catches the audience′s attention because of its universality.
The movie starts with Arman, who is still in high school, leaving to meet his biological mother. Arman returns without meeting his biological mother and is gripped by intense grief. From the scene the father bathes Arman with the naked body, we can notice he cares and loves the son he adopted. But Arman′s behavior repeatedly disappoints his father. It is especially unacceptable that his younger brother is adversely affected by Arman. Mother is also tired of protecting Arman. Although Arman is unable to adapt to school life for his own reason, the family faces a crisis in the end. The opening film of the 2019 Sarajevo Film Festival. (Nam Dong-chul)
