Program Note
Hock Hiap Leong is a short film that pays tribute to a 55-year-old coffee shop that has been an incessant inspiration to many people on Armenian Street. On 31 March 2001, urban re-development saw the demolition of this epitaph of history. This film illustrates a filmmakers reminiscence and affection for this coffee shop that he grew up with. Though its physical presence can no longer stake its claim to that site, the familiar scent of its coffee endures and every little detail of this coffee shop lingers vividly in the filmmaker′s mind.
