A family is gathered at the funeral of Hee-jun. Father, mother and daughter have special memories with Hee-jun. Hee-jun met the father at his mom’s snack bar and wrote a novel about that weird encounter. The mother was Hee-jun’s Korean literature teacher and Hee-jun showed her the novel that he wrote about the father. The daughter was Hee-jun’s friend. She and Hee-jun shared many interests together. The title Members of the Funeral is also the title of Hee-jun’s novel. The continuous story wanders between the novel and the film, as if it is a story of Ouroboros - an ancient Greek symbol depicting a serpent swallowing its own tail and forming a circle. The end of the story becomes the beginning. Director Baek Seung-bin already showed his talent of putting the sentiments of literature into the subtleness of film when he made the short film The French Lieutenant’s Woman(same title as John Fowles’ well-known novel) and he gives full play to his talents again in his first feature.
