Program Note
Taesik makes a living collecting recyclable wastes or stealing waste metals from empty houses in the redevelopment zone. When his friend takes him to a karaoke club, Taesik meets Sooeun, who works as a hostess there. His friend introduces him as a rich guy, and Taesik spends one night with Sooeun. What can be the result? The film shows the two characters’ individual situations. Taesik has to look after his invalid mother who is in need of an operation, and he also has to send alimony to his former wife who raises their son. On edge, any incident might trigger an eruption of fury in him. Sooeun had changed her name to avoid creditors when she met a street singer, Hyunjin, and the two girls fell in love with each other. However now that Sooeun has had sex with a man, Hyunjin gets mad. Fearing Hyunjin might leave her, Sooeun meets Taesik again, and a tragedy, a murder, occurs that day in broad daylight in the redevelopment zone. (NAM Dong-chul)
