Program Note
Narrated by an Andy Warhol-esque news anchor, Late Night gives the diverse people living in London, a voice-members of organized crime street gangs, panhandlers, those representing workers, bankers, preachers and beyond. Most have been excluded from their community and society in general: the East End of London is a poor area that used to be home until new luxurious houses started the gentrification of the district. What they say mournfully forms a series of responses to the world of excessive capitalism that we live in today. As George Orwell said, "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face-forever", this cinematic essay ruthlessly focuses on Britain’s vulgar streets and their dwellers. To paint a picture of modern Britain, the director makes use of a variety of quotes, records and media materials, making the audience question their future, which is under the influence of the institutionalized madness of global capitalism.
