Program Note
This is an omnibus film dealing with the city of Bangkok, created by four directors: Wisit Sasanatieng, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Aditya Assarat, and Kongdei Jaturanrasmee. The first episode is about a blind girl, Tassana, who sells lottery tickets. She eventually meets a mysterious young man who shows her Bangkok (city of angels). However, what Director Sasanatieng really misses is a more pure and beautiful Bangkok. The second episode is a story about friendship and love. Best friends Ananda and Louis each meet different lovers and have love fights. Bangkok also belongs to young lovers. The third episode is about the dark side of Bangkok. A young man who comes from the suburbs looking for his father meets a prostitute and spends a night with her. Soon, he feels as though his soul disappears, as does a myriad of other Bangkok citizens. The fourth episode is a criticism of the barren human relationship within Bangkok. After throwing some money to a homeless man who helps fix her car at night, Wan becomes ashamed. Each of the four episodes deal with either the bright or the dark side of Bangkok, but the directors all share a love for Bangkok. (KIM Ji-Seok)
