Program Note
A tycoon, who faced the sudden death, returns as a ghost and watches his family’s confrontations unfold. His sons argue over the matter of successor and their hidden emotions among the family members including the wife and daughter are externalized. The tycoon comes to know the secrets of the family and their concealed emotions. There are two storylines in [The Blue Mansion]. One is the story of the family members after the death of the tycoon; another is the story of the past which the tycoon is encountered as a ghost. Thus, in this blue mansion, there is a co-existence of the past and the present which his death has brought about. These two stories explain and compliment for each other, but never intertwined. As a sophisticated black comedy combined with a family melodrama full of mystery and horror, this film is beautifully done to capture the complicated relationships of the various characters through a well-rounded ensemble cast.
