Program Note
Hideo, a middle aged man, lives an ordinary life with his lover, Nozomi, an air doll. One day, while he is at work, Nozomi comes to life and steps out into the world. Working at a video shop, Nozomi falls in love with Junichi, her colleague and the film portrays the world with a view of a doll which is now animated. While most films which deal with a sex doll ground on the human perspective and standard, this film observes the world from the view of a sex doll. In Nozomi’s view, the world is vital and lovely, yet at the same time still is strange and severe. Bae Doo-na’s dazzling acting as Nozomi captures the innocence of a doll with her uniquely empty and innocent look on her face. Without having a dramatic story, this unique film desperately follows the emotional flow of the doll. (CHO Young-jung)
