Program Note
Jump! Boys follows a group of naughty little boys, mostly in the first or second grade. They are from different families and the have different characteristics. But, they have one thing in common. Unlike other, typical elementary school boys, they play with parallel bars, rings and vaulting horses. In the gym, the little boys not only train their bodies, but also their minds and emotions. Under the guidance of the once famous gymnast coach, the boys learn not only gymnastics but also about life. Though the training is hard, the boys never quit. At last, the boys go to the National Elementary School Gymnastics Competition. Though they are still little naughty boys in their bedrooms right up until the night before the meet, they become earnest competitors once the games begin. Since the gym coach and the director are brothers, the director fixed the camera at an intimate distance from the boys, as if it were one of them. The use of the graphics and animation also helps to show the free and imaginative world of children. The open interview with the coach leads us to think of the significance of sports through the association of the coach′s past and the little boys′ future. (Nam In-young)
