Program Note
Set in Wolgot, a small village located in the West Sea, camel(s) is a black & white film about a one-night stand involving a middle-aged couple. Director Park Ki-Yong, who made his debut 5 years ago with Motel Cactus, directed this film with only an outline. The film was shot in 12 days, with 10 crewmembers, 2 performers, and a portable digital camera. The spontaneous acting, as well as the swift footwork by the production team, were crucial to the success of the filming. The final product is like jazz, in that the director, crew and the actors had to improvise. The film generates a feeling of liveliness, an ′on the spot′ feeling. The director, as in his prior piece, uses the claustrophobic space of a motel room, to depict the nervous lives of the middle-aged people. (Han Sang-Jun)
