Program Note
Wim Wenders, director of Pina (2012), made this 3D documentary to explore the work of one of Germany’s greatest artists, Anselm Kiefer. Through archival footage and dramatic re-enactments, the audience slowly gains insights into Anselm’s life and artistic journeys. Wenders takes us to Anselm’s workshops in Paris and the South of France, and to an exhibition in Venice’s Piazza Palazzi, where we come face-to-face with life-size bomber sculptures, tens of meters high panoramas, and towering stone sculptures. Anselm’s magnificent work is a provocative reflection on the darkest days of German history, from the rise of Hitler to the ruins of Berlin. More than just a documentary about an artist, Anselm is a stunning cinematic experience that transcends our imagination. (SEO Seunghee)
