The voice heard over the opening shots of Last Film is that of director Jeon Soo-il. Stern and decisive, it is the kind of voice that is not easily forgotten. Through his filmography that spans from Wind Echoing in My Being (1997) to America Town (2018), he has built a unique cinematic world and, in so doing, become known as a director with an iron will. Now, after more than thirty years of making consistently challenging, self-reflexive films, he explains, first-hand, why he makes films and how he feels now. He talks about his struggles with the story of Sangmin (Jang Hyun-sung), who is his alter ego; with the images from his previous flms; and with the dreamlike pictures for which he will be most remembered.
