This melodrama is the first of the would-be ‘radical’ melodramas by director Jeon Kyu-hwan famous for the ‘Town Trilogy’. It centers on a CEO of a publishing company and his wife. The husband is in a immoral relationship with a writer in his company, and the wife is falling in love with a young Arabic man. Rather than sticking to the love triangle motif, the movie follows a completely unexpected turn to head into a shocking catastrophe. That’s what makes this melodrama radical. It’s not only the narrative of the movie that is radical. The director is embarrassingly bold in his raw portrayal of the naked bodies and their sexualities as well as of the relationships. In fact, it is beyond being bold and frank ? it aims at being honest, candid and natural. So is the perspective toward immorality. That may be why the immoral sex scenes played by Yoon Dong-hwan and Sin Ye-an seem to be natural rather than vulgar or even suggestive. The cameo performance by author Park Bum-sin is also natural.
