Program Note
This film is filled with creative imagination. Director Gen Sekiguchí creates a humorous world fully appreciated by Japanese pop culture. Yoko, a TV commercial planner tries to murder his hypnotist girlfriend Aoyama. Ishigaki wants to kill his violent wife. An ordinary man Kobayashi is hypnotized and believes he is a bird. In addition to these interesting characters, there are three thieves and a professional killer who create a queer story of their own. The confusing and contradictory story makes the viewers laugh and at the same time sheds a positive light on life. Ishigaki finds his love at last, Kobayashi′s son discovers a new way of looking at the world, and the petty thief finds his sexual orientation as well as his love. Gen Sekiguchi has a fine sensitivity built upon his career in commercial filming. His wild imagination completely changes the viewers ordinary views on the world. The wretched men in the film are repressed by women and it may not seem right. But the world we live in, the world to which we pay little attention, turns out to be filled with love and passion. Gen Sekiguchi gives an unexpected twist in the last scene that provides spectators with laughter in an unforgettable moment. (Kim Ji-seok)
