Program Note
This film, divided into two parts, is about two women Ga-in and Do-hee. The former has an eating disorder and the latter is going to have a baby out-of-wedlock. By keeping herself locked in her room, Ga-in tries to control her body as she keeps away from food, but eventually she fails. Do-hee, who lives in America, temporarily returns to Korea in search of something, but she has no close friends and as she masturbates alone she cries. The first part of the film conveys a sense of desolation as the camera is set inside a closed space and the detailed sound even picks up the sound of chewing. On the other hand, the second part is filmed with a hand-held camera roaming through the streets, and the swaying streets and people are mingled with various sounds. However, the final destinations of these two women are their own rooms. Despite of an extremely simple storyline, the film depicts the loneliness and pain of the women as they try hard to converse with the bodies they cannot master.
