Program Note
Linn da Quebrada is a transgender woman from a Brazilian slum. She performs for colored queers. She shakes the stage with the passionate twerking, flashy costumes and powerful rap music that resists the heteronormative gender order and criticizes machismo. The film consists of performances, dramatic radio interviews, and video footage from daily life and her past. This colorful plot shows her various aspects, ranging from the charismatic performance artist of projectile temperament, to familiar, warm daily routines and fighting scenes. She makes her body a political arena to protest poverty, racism, misogyny and transphobia. In particular, the body′s consciousness becomes more sensitive after fighting cancer. How far apart are the treated body and the queer body? Who sets the standard of a normal and an abnormal body? She defines and expands in a way that pollutes femininity. A woman with a penis declares a fluid gender identity while using nudity radically. “The inconvenience and disorder are yours, not mine. It′s just an invention from your point of view. Sorry. I′m glad it helped.” (Cho HyeYoung)
