Program Note
Eleven-year-old Jovan dreams of becoming a superhero to teach his school bullies a lesson. In reality, he is simply a quiet boy who has cerebral palsy. After charismatic Milica is transferred to his class, she drops in for a surprise visit at his home. The two become best of friends. One day Milica enlists Jovan to help her free her father from his “witch” girlfriend, and the two travel by night bus to find him. The film’s perspective on the two children, one with physical disabilities and another with a broken family, is in fact, nothing too troubling. Though these may seem like gigantic problems to pre-adolescent children, a little change in perspective shows that such issues are more akin to personality growth. Hence the issues seem serious at the beginning of the film, but are soon peacefully resolved without much havoc. The film was much loved by children Jovan’s age and won the Young People’s Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the TIFF Kids International Film Festival. (Huh Kyoung)
