Program Note
This is the sequel and final episode of Baahubali: The Beginning. As in the original episode, Rajamouli directed and Prabhas took the lead role. The original episode dealt with the journey of a brave young man who grew up in a village under a waterfall. The young man, Baahubali, meets his beloved Avanthika and hits the road to rescue Queen Devasena, who has been detained for 25 years. In Baahubali: The Conclusion, the story goes back to Baahubali’s parents’ time, revealing the secrets about Baahubali’s birth as well as their love and tragic breakup. This movie is an epic drama depicting the Baahubali family’s glory and revenge surrounding the power of the ancient empire of India. It is also steeped in the unique flavor of Indian masala movies, with dancing and singing in places. The best parts of it are the special effects that recreate the splendid ancient culture of India and the grand scale of the battle scenes. In this exemplar of Indian cinema we can identify the present and the future of Indian blockbuster movies. (KANG Naeyoung)
