Program Note
The latest film by Iraqi director Mohamed Al Daradji, who gained world renown after the release of Son of Baylon (2009). Bagdad is celebrating the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha in 2006. Sarah is commissioned for a suicide bomb attack in a central train station that is reopening after three years of out of service. Security, however, is heavily reinforced with American soldiers and guards. Seeking an opportunity, she chooses a salesman, Salam, to get involved. Nevertheless, a woman abandoning a baby in a bag and American soldiers chasing after the woman jeopardize Sara’s plan. On the other side, Salam keeps trying to make her guarantee his survival. Exploring interpersonal relationship under the scars left by the war, the director depicts a woman terrorist in the jungle-like city where everyone, young and old, struggles for survival. He attentively directs the psychology of the person with constant tension to the end, questioning what is right and wrong, lost dreams, and humanity. (PARK Sungho)
