Program Note
Young-nam is newly appointed as the head of a police substation in a rural village. She acquaints herself with a young girl named Dohee. Bullied by her family and friends, Young-nam tries to protect Dohee. Living with her “father and grandmother” who are not blood-related to her, she suffers from domestic violence. Dohee begins to rely on Young-nam, but the police officer notices something doubtful about Dohee’s behavior on the day her grandmother dies. The girl’s father does not like the police chief. He learns that Young-nam had a reason to be stationed in this small town, and tries to separate her from Dohee. The debut film of director July Jung, A Girl at My Door asks us how our society will protect the vulnerable and weak. Young-nam tries to embrace this enigmatic girl and protect her to the end. The police officer feels she cannot just desert Dohee because she herself is also a minority and also needs protection in the society.
