Program Note
Sarah is a 20 year old runner. Her life changes when she’s offered a place in the province’s best university athletics team. Her mother, who fears the consequences of such a change on her daughter’s life, does not financially support her. Stubborn, Sarah leaves with her friend Antoine. Naive as they can be, they decide to marry, in order to access better loans from the government. The marriage is not what they expected especially since Sarah met Zoey, a teammate. She doesn’t want her choices to hurt anyone. All she wants is to be a runner. Canadian filmmaker Chloe Robichaud’s first feature, Sarah Prefers to Run tells a story of a young woman who is going through transition from adolescence to adulthood. It is a compelling drama with the fine performance of each character especially Sophie Desmarais who plays a very determined girl, Sarah. (Dosin Pak)
