Program Note
In Baranashi, India, where over 150 bodies are cremated everyday, there are seven children who take off the burial clothes from the dead bodies and sell them, sometimes with the bereaved family’s permission but mostly it is done surreptitiously. At the crematory, their playground and workplace, the camera looks into the children beyond the fire, death and life. Each child narrates their own view of Baranashi. The film asks if it is only the dead bodies that are being burnt in the crematory. (LEE Seung Min)
