Measured time and the time of consciousness which flows inside of us intertwine into a chronology called "life." This three part film follows man through the stages of childhood, youth and old age, focusing on the subjective passing of time within an objective time frame. An old woman asks a child to find the time when her clock stops running. The child memorizes the time as 10:00 and plays outside until dark. When the child returns, he recites the time as he remembers it. Although time has passed, this is the precise time for the child. A young man writes a poem about his dream describing the wandering and lonely spirit of youth. He has someone to love and a hometown to reminisce about but his heart still suffers from desolation. In the end he burns his notes and disappears. For the old man, time represents the premonition of death. Like the conflicts with his oldest son, the disparity of time between traditional and contemporary values increasingly disables the old man. The old man prepares for his last days with a portrait of himself. The sustained images of the screen present to us both meditation and alienation that that read as memories of a distant time.
