Program Note
The obstetrics and gynecology clnic is a place where the topics of abortion, single motherhood, test tube babies, and the traditIonal values that prioritize male children are the center of heated debate. Jeong-Yeon and Hye-suk are friends and co-owners of a such a clinic. They"solve"the problems of the many women who seek their help. However as women themselves, they are not free of these problems. Hand held camerawork captures the images and debates on sex exchanged between men and women at the clinic. The film suggests the issue is not deciding who is right or wrong, but to find ways for reconciliation. The birth scene is not compromised and instead seems to point out that this itself if the true picture of the gynecologist and furthermore, of reconciliation. The bold portrayal of the world inside and outside the womb humorously destroy moral boundaries. As a final note, the film is an account of what the obgyn clinic is all about: A place where the initial ritual that announces the beginning of our relationship with the world is performed, and where understanding and tolerance is necessary.
