Program Note
[Jig] is the remarkable story of the 40th Irish Dancing World Championships, held in March 2010 in Glasgow. Three thousand dancers, their families and teachers from around the world descended on Glasgow for one drama-filled week. Clad in wigs, make up, diamantes and dresses costing thousands of pounds, they competed for the coveted world title. Focusing on this little-known world of competitive Irish dancing, the film follows contestants through an extraordinary year of obsession and dedication for just a few minutes of glory on stage. Director Sue Bourne leads us through a remarkable world of wonderful characters of all ages from across the globe?Ireland, Holland, Britain, America and Russia. Jig is about dedication, effort, aspiration, passion, success, and failure, as well as the remarkably talented people who challenge themselves, seeking perfection in all details. (Jay JEON)
