Program Note
The film tells the story of three generations of women. They are three very different women, all named Madeleine, who are brought together by their shared quest to slowly peel away and recreate the layers of their fragmented memories. Mado, the grandmother, is a passionate woman who goes by what her heart tells her. With each passing day she searches for traces of her youth and of her one and only love, Gerard, on the luminous face of the beautiful daughter she was forced to abandon and who she is only now rediscovering for the first time. Marie-Madeleine, the mother is a liberated, strong-minded modern woman. Bright, sprightly young Madeleine is a true child of the 90′s, resourceful and full of imagination. She finds comfort thinking about her German father, whom she has never met, but whose voice she hears calling her, from across the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes the rhythm of the road seem to briefly slow down, as dreams merge with images of the past.
