Argentine artist Lina savors the joy of being in the spotlight at an award ceremony in Switzerland. Before returning home she impulsively throws herself into a river and feels a strange sense of peace. But when the thought of her daughter crosses her mind, she rushes out, and afterward develops aquaphobia. Finding it difficult to wash herself or even drink, she feels estranged from her daily life. In her third feature film, Milagros Mumenthaler follows the life of a woman suffering from helplessness. The achievements Lina once pursued with fierce determination—her family and career—become stifling constraints. Her ennui manifests as visions of becoming severed from the world around her. The film focuses on Lina’s struggles to choose between settling into reality or running away from it entirely. Through meticulous direction, the director allows the audience to fully sense Lina’s confusion and fear through their body rather than through spoken words. (CHO Hyunna)
