God Will Not Help is Hana Jušić′s second feature film, released nine years after Quit Staring at My Plate (2016), which was invited to the Venice Film Festival and other prestigious events. The film tells the story of a stranger′s unfamiliar journey. The protagonist, Teresa, is a woman from Peru who arrives in a Croatian mountain village, claiming to be the wife of a man who emigrated there. The two main characters in the film rely on divinity, but their missteps are due to humans, not God. For women, in particular, the hardships of life stem from men. Like the tyrannical father in her previous work, the self-centered leader in God Will Not Help is portrayed as an oppressive force to women. Jušić focuses her attention on scenes where a woman, who has been neglected and silenced, reaches out to another woman struggling to communicate. If you remember the brilliant ending of her debut film, the similar backdrop at the end of this film will bring a warm smile to your face.
