The Wedding Banquet is a remake of Ang Lee′s eponymous romantic comedy, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1993. With the change in the times, the film focuses more on the personal relationships and conflicts between family, lovers, and friends rather than on the struggle against conservative social norms. The script, adapted by the original screenwriter James Schamus along with director Andrew Ahn, is further illuminated by the solid performances of a star-studded cast including Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran, Han Gi-Chan, Youn Yuh-Jung, and Joan Chen.
