Program Note
Jamojaya tells the story of James, a young Indonesian rapper with a rising career who is soon to have his debut album in U.S., and his father, who is still mourning the death of James’s brother. Their relationship is put to the test when an up-and-coming rapper at the crossroads of his career decides to let go of his manager, who is also his father. This decision forces them to confront the past and figure out what they want of each other. Jamojaya is the latest feature from Justin Chon, one of the most well-known Korean American actors and filmmakers of today. This heartwarming drama meticulously depicts true love and conflict between the father and son who have nothing but each other after all. With its enchanting cinematography and amazing performances delivered by both Brian Imanuel (a.k.a. Indonesian rapper Rich Brian) and Yayu A.W. Unru, Jamojaya is an unforgettable film that will touch the hearts of audience.
