Program Note
Saiful, whose only asset is his own body, leaves his hometown to become an ambulance driver in the capital city, Dhaka. Although he daily sees death, the most challenging thing for him is the immense poverty around him. His hometown, where his wife is left with his parents and two young children, is located on a delta that is slowly shrinking because an ever-increasing river that surrounds it. Saiful’s family lacks financial resources. His first wife from an arranged marriage tries to work abroad, but she blames him for being too poor to buy a flight ticket. Now responsible for two wives, with no other means of support, he gradually loses his mental and physical health amid the worsening situations. No Ground Beneath the Feet is Bangladeshi director Mohammad Rabby Mridha’s feature debut. It portrays a man driven to extremes because of the combined stress of natural disasters caused by climate change and the absence of an essential social safety net. (PARK Sungho)

Mohammad Rabby MRIDHA
Born in Rupatoli, Mohammad Rabby Mridha moved to Dhaka in 2007 and started his storytelling journey in 2015 with a TV commercial for a fashion brand. Thenceforth, he made a lot of TV commercials and music videos. No Ground Beneath the Feet is his debut fiction.
