Single mom Pin-Wen is a capable career woman who lives with her teenage daughter, Xiao Jing. On the day Pin-Wen is informed of a salary cut due to the company’s worsening circumstances, she receives a call from Xiao Jing during a meeting. When Xiao Jing is forced to quarantine after her classmate tests positive for coronavirus, Pin-Wen stays home with her at her company’s request. Their already strained relationship worsens, as Xiao Jing’s behavior become even more hostile and abnormal. Eventually, Pin-Wen turns to her ex-husband Qi-Wen for help. Taiwanese auteur Chung Mong-Hong meticulously designs the economic, social, and mental crises faced by ordinary individuals in the COVID era, and looks at the mother-daughter duo with an affectionate gaze as they overcome their crises. Also noteworthy is the chemistry between Alyssa Chia and Gingle Wang, who rose to fame through the film Detention (2019). The Falls was invited to the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival and the Special Presentation section of the Toronto Film Festival. (PARK Sun Young)
