Program Note
A film that made headlines at this year’s online South by Southwest (SXSW). Amy is ravaged by the notion that she is going to die tomorrow, which sends her down a dizzying emotional spiral. When her skeptical friend Jane discovers Amy’s feeling of imminent death to be contagious, they both begin bizarre journeys through what might be the last day of their lives. Now, the fear of death attacks Jane. Back home, Jane’s brother, his wife, and friends are having a birthday party. Jane tells them she’s dying tomorrow. As you can see, the film depicts the process of death spreading like Ring, the Japanese movie. The difference is that there is no ghost, such as Sadako, in this film. The fears in She Dies Tomorrow only come from a word and spread out. The ominous premonition of dying tomorrow amplifies and expands in the head. The close-up of the characters, the ominous sound, the mysterious images, and impressive colors create such fears. (NAM Dong-chul)
