Program Note
Pasolini recomposes Italian poet and film director Pier Paolo Pasolini’s last day of life. On November 2nd, 1975, the day when he was killed, Pasolini spends time with his mother and some close friends and goes out to enjoy the night in Rome. The next day, his body is found on the Ostia beach. Pasolini caused more scandals than any other cinema master to that time. He made shocking and uncomfortable films such as The Decameron(1971) and, Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom(1975) repeatedly going up against censors. His films always generated both praise and criticism. Maybe a reflection of this, Ferrara’s new film shows the master watching his own film. The world-renowned actor Willem Dafoe passionately plays the role of Pasolini. This great work, which was brought to screens by the duo of director Abel Ferrara and Dafoe, blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy. (RHEE Soue-won)
