Program Note
Based on a true story that recently shocked the world, it tells the story of a social worker from Nottingham named Margaret Humphreys, who exposed the British government scandal that sent young children to Australia by force. Margaret faced all kinds of difficulties alone and did not care about her well-being as she fought to reunite countless families. She charged the British and the Australian governments for unjustly enforcing their laws. Margaret exposed the dark secret that the British had kept quiet for dozens of years. 130,000 children were deported to Australia and other countries in the Commonwealth. Even children as young as 4 years-old, whose parents had died, were sent to the other side of the world. Many of the children were shockingly abused, forced into heavy labor, or had to live in shelters. (Jay JEON)
