Program Note
Old Sadiq has lived a life filled with major losses - the war, the camp, the death of his wife, the early death of his son. As a result he subsequently turned his back on his life. He lives as a vegetable, waiting for death. Until one day the reality of a tragic situation forces him to wake up - the loss of his grandson, who had gone to work in Russia. With his daughter-in-law in despair, grief does not know what to do with himself - the only man in the house - old Sadiq is bedridden. But he rises from his deathbed, and goes to Moscow in search of his grandson, Aman. This film encompasses what it means to turn your back on your life, but only later to discover it is worth living. Sadiq changes from being a man bed-ridden into a man with a sense of purpose filled with determination and compassion. Man only has one life, and he should live it, if not for the sake of himself, then simply for the sake of his loved ones.
