Program Note
Late ‘70s France. Suzanne lives the life of a traditional housewife, taking care of her 2 children and her grumpy husband, Robert, who runs an umbrella factory. When the factory workers stage a strike, Robert is taken hostage. In order to settle the dispute, Suzanne discreetly seeks help from Morris, the mayor of the town and her former lover. France’s beloved director Francois Ozon’s latest comedy boasts a star-studded cast with Catherine Deneuve, Gerard Depardieu and Fabrice Luchini. Plenty of contemporary sparkle and sharp humor give rise to a light and fast-moving topsy-turvy family drama typical of Ozon. With witty dialogues and masterful central performance by the leading actors, this crowd-pleaser has a lot to offer for the audience. [Potiche] is a must-see which was invited in the Competition of this year’s Venice Film Festival. (RHEE Soue-won)
