Program Note
The person who invented birthdays probably did so with the intention of remembering and celebrating loved ones. However, those days that embody significance to certain dates can make people feel lonelier than usual. If nobody remembers, or if you do not rec eive felicitations, you feel lonely and sad. Adela, who lives alone near a dumpster, feels that way. A newborn on the same day receives applause, but nobody remembers the eighty-year-old lady’s birthday. Adela goes shopping and prepares food for her birthday, but the day is slow and long. She awaits her family for whom she has devoted her whole life to, but nobody comes. The camera follows her long day, and when gazing at the old lady who stares at the setting sun, viewers will feel something stir inside them. (Mina OAK)
