Program Note
An debt-collector stays the night in a haunted temple. He meets a ghost-busting Daoist eccentric who warns him about ghosts and demons. Sure enough, Cheng falls under the wiles of a beautiful ghost-seductress who lures men into a trap so that their life-force may be sucked out from them by a thousand year old tree monster year old tree monster.

A master of Hong Kong martial arts film, Ching Gang is Ching Sui-tong’s father and so he has been raised surrounded by films. He began to direct martial arts in 1974 and was genuinely recognized as a talented martial arts director since 1980 and made his debut with Duel to the Death in 1982. In 1987, he made Chinese Ghost Story, which gave him an international fame, and opened a new world of Hong Kong martial arts film by making the following films, A Terracotta Warrior (1989), Swordsman(1990) and The Legend of the Swordsman (1991), [Belly of the Beast](2003), [An Empress and the Warriors](2008).
