Program Note
A night of despair in modern Belgrade. A night like any other, during which the paths of "ordinary people"cross in a tragic-comic ambiance of absurdity. The lives of these "ordinary people"reflect the state of Yugoslavia and the impact it has on the lives of individuals. The leading characters who believe they are in control of their destinies are unwillingly caught up in the flow of events but manage to maintain their sense of humor and their humanity.
In the past few years, a number of films have been made about the conflict that bled and divided what was once Yugoslavia. Most of them dealt with Bosnia. As a Yugoslav of Serbian descent, I′ve long felt the need to use the lives of "ordinary People"to dramatize the state of mind of my own nation, which, lest we forget, still lives daily under the yoke of a long embargo, an embargo which was supposed to weaken the regime but in fact only hurt mainly the poor.
