An early film directed by Siddiq Barmak representing contemporary Afghan cinema. A tenant farmer called Murat and his beautiful wife Sanubal live a humble but happy life. However, their happiness is shaken when the landowner brings an American guest called Jones. The landowner forces Sanubal to sing for Jones even though a married woman is not allowed to sing in front of another man. Forced by the landowner, Sanubal reluctantly starts singing and Murat feels insulted and enraged. While the film satirizes the unjust balance of power between the United States and Afghanistan, it also uses the self-destructive consequence of anger to criticize Afghan custom, strongly impressing the audience.
