This was a comeback of Parajanov after his silence in the 1970s due to imprisonment and ban on his filmmaking. Parajanov had to invite actor Dodo Abshidze as a co-director to cover production costs, but Parajanov still boasted his unreserved artistry. People search for someone to be buried alive, and the chosen victim endures the forced sacrifice. Probably the director’s self-portrait, who had to sacrifice for ideologies. (CHO Young-jung)
