Program Note
Produced by and starring Jimi Kim, [Ticket] is an ensemble that realistically captures the anger and pain suffered by women working in suburban call-girl cafes. It is a film that transcends the reach of similar subject matters and the convention of melodrama.
As the storyline was developed after meeting one of the call-girls by accident, the film provided hot gossip material for the era; a vast amount of the film had been censored before its release. It even encountered a suit by the National Cafe Association. Nevertheless, Jimi Kim’s portrayal of Madam Min that borders on the line of insanity is a proof of the actress’ maturity both in her age and acting and can be admired as her best performance.
