Program Note
This film, a remake of Lee Man-hee’s Late Autumn(1966), reunited director Kim Ki-young and Jimi Kim. Suk-young(Jimi Kim), a model prisoner in her thirties, meets Hoon(Lee Jung-gil) on a train to her mother’s grave. As Hoon is pursued by police for burglary, the two share a hopeless reality and sorrow, and inadvertently fall in love with each other.
Rave reviews noted the film’s calm message and emotional range of fiendish sadism. Jimi Kim’s impressive depiction of a prisoner who struggles between the anguish towards society and self-pity earned her Best Actress at Daejong Film Award 2 years in a row. (JOO You-shin)
