Program Note
[The Earth] is a representative literary film based on Park Kyung-ri’s epic novel, and features voice recordings done by Jimi Kim herself for the first time since Shin Sang-ok’s [Prince Daewon] in 1968. She played a role of the graceful and tenacious ‘Lady Yoon’ who leads a household on her own, and won the Best Actress at Daejong Film Award and 13th Panama Film Festival. In films such as [Wasteland](KimSoo-yong, 1975), and [Myong-ja Akiko Sonia](Lee Jang-ho, 1992), Kim Jimi portrayed female characters whose individual lives were ruined in conjunction with the agony of the nation caused by foreign invasion and exploitation. However, in this film, she depicted an image of unwavering ‘Mother Earth’ who strives to guard the land and tradition in a broader sense. (JOO You-shin)
