Program Note
Soo-mi(Jimi Kim), in despair from losing her fiance in the war, unintentionally falls in love with a Korean American, Henry Jang(Lee Min). However, on their wedding day, In-kyu(Choi Moo-ryong), the fiance she thought was dead, shows up as a wounded soldier, leading all three to tragedy.
The film’s charm lies in its unique and modern ambiance created by western spectacles such as a cocktail party, ballet performance and band music that surrounds the darkness of the reality and tragic relationships. The storyline and the characters seem to have been influenced by popular American melodramas imported during this period such as [Waterloo Bridge](1940) and [Random Harvest](1942). (JOO You-shin)
